These Solanum species and varieties are grown for ornamental fruits. Some are edible but small compared to the usual purple eggplant. They needs a warm climate or glasshouse for best results but can also be grown outside on a sheltered place.
 

Solanum species ‘Deco-Fruits Mix’

Beautiful mixture of ornamental Solanum or eggplants. In this colourful mixture: Solanum aethiopicum, Solanum melongena Stiped Toga and Solanum melongena Thai Yellow. Height: 80-180 cm / 30-70 in.

Solanum aethiopicum

Solanum aethiopicum has many ribbed fruits which look like tiny orange-red pumpkins. Also named as pumpkin-on-a-stick. The average fruit size is about 6 cm / 2.5 in. and the shelf life is good. Great in autumn decorations with deco-cucumbers and small pumpkins. Height: 80-100 cm / 30-40 in.

Solanum melongena ‘Striped Toga’

Eggplant heirloom variety. The oval shaped fruits grow in small clusters together; fruit size is 6 cm / 2.5 in. The fruit start green with darker green stripes later turning yellow and beautiful glossy orange with green stripes. Highly decorative for flower arrangements and fruit plates. The small fruits are edible. Height: 140-180 cm / 55-70 in.

Solanum melongena ‘Thai Yellow’

Eggplant heirloom variety. The small, oval shaped fruits start white and turn yellow at maturity. The fruit size is 8 cm / 3 in. Height: 80-100 cm / 30-40 in.
